True Love
What is it?
True love is something no one can really explain. The feeling of love is something everyone experiences whether for friends or romantically, but to explain it is something that cannot be done. Everyone's explanations of love can be total opposites and unique to them. Love is complicated, messy, freeing, and intimate all at once, but how do we gather these emotions to convey love?
Aquamarine is a movie about mermaids or so we think, the real core of this movie is love and what it truly is. Watching this movie as a kid, I entirely paid more attention to the mermaid and the fantasy of it all rather than the real message. The root of this movie is about the friendship between the tweens and their fishy friend, Aquamarine. As per my last post, Aquamarine is set to find true love in spite of her father and his demands of an arranged marriage. But through her journey and the tweens hardships between each other, the trio realizes that love is right in front of them. Claire and Hailey tell Aquamarine that they love her at the end of the movie and that's when they all realize that love isn't some boy down at the beach or the life guard all three went for, it was really the love between themselves and each other. They love they share between the three of them is enough to convince Aquamarine's father that true love exists after all. I wont spoil the end of the movie but I will say that Aquamarine is a joyous film filled with whimsy and fantasy but the true power is within yourself.
